Editorial Review

Lata Marur has always illustrated that she sees much more than mere rocks when looking at the two and a half billion year old marvels. With Rockatantra, she showed rocks telling stories. Last year, with Rockuntam, she shared with one and all her discovery that there is a Vaikuntam masterpiece in every rock.

This year, she has taken a world view and her first exhibition in the series is titled Reichscapes. As the title suggests, the exhibition is about rockscapes that reflect the history of Germany (Reich), whose monuments, historical figures and luminaries, all seem to have been moulded onto the rockfaces of Lata's imagination. Reichscapes is being held at ITC The Kakatiya from 26th to 28th September, and will continue to be displayed at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, from 29th September to 7th October.

Lata Marur is a self-trained, nature-inspired artist who has, in the last 10 years, emerged as a significant talent with her exclusive black and white rockscapes of the Deccan. The only artist in India credited with nine solo shows at the ITC Hotels' WelcomArt Gallery, she has a repertoire that includes charcoals on paper and canvas, acrylic on paper and canvas, and a unique embossed graphite style. She has had shows (both solo and in groups) in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Goa and Dubai. Her work is a delight for collectors and nature lovers alike. Lata is also a trained Kuchipudi dancer, an MBA, a professional soft-skills trainer and a Save the Rocks activist.
